I, Vagabond

Well I had a little moment and thought I would do a brief post (not brief) just to catch you, dear reader, up on what’s going on with my life right now. It’s crazy complicated and I’m really tired. I don’t even have my contacts in but I thought I should post something quick anyway. (not quick – 1400 words long! wow!)

First off, let me apologize for falling off the wagon with the blog-a-day challenge. Things got crazy busy with the project I’ve been working on and I just lost focus on the important things in life – such as blogging, of course.

Saturday I hung out at the house in the morning which was nice, but I really wanted to go into work and get some stuff done. I waited until the afternoon for someone to take me (darn it being dependant and not having a car!), until I finally said, “oh to heck with it all” and went to the movies to see Angels and Demons. I read the book a few years back and was curious to see how it translated to screen. It was interesting I guess, but overall pretty forgettable. So whatever with that. Afterwards, Christian, Parker and I went up to the office and busted some work out until… 3 AM I think? yeah.

Sunday I walked to church in the sweltering heat and showed up all sweaty and exhausted. I sat in the back by myself (which is a weird experience. I miss my family!!!). I felt naughty so I snuck out after Sacrament Meeting and started to walk home. Then Diana Larsen gave me a ride and she continued to be awesome. Later I got invited over to the Hokes for an amazing build-your-own personal pizzas in the brick oven dinner. Awesome. Then later that evening, I… I can’t remember what I did. Sorry.

Monday was my big deadline for the pitch presentation I’ve been putting together as well as another top-secret project. I ended up pulling a TWENTY-TWO hour shift working until 4AM the following day and then taking some stuff home with me to e-mail. Jinkies.

So that Tuesday morning, Christian, Parker, Scott and Jon flew off to Tornoto for the beginning of the pitch blitz. I stayed behind (no passport!) and had a nice quiet P-Day getting my ducks in a row. (no I don’t have ducks, and if I did, they wouldn’t be in a row.) I drove Christian up to LAX and on the way back was swiftly reminded of how much I didn’t miss LA traffic. booo… But I got to chill at home, watch more junk food TV (which I’ve been doing waaaay too much of. gotta fix that). Then in the afternoon, I got a haircut (joy) and headed up to an I-Group in Long Beach. If you’re not in the loop, I-Groups are a New Warrior thing. We get together and talk about the stuff going on in our lives and are able to process it and support eachother. I love my I-Group in PA and I am sad that I’m not going to be with them. They’re a bunch of princes, I tell ya… I’ll post a picture when I get a chance.

ANYHOW, so after I-Group I thought I’d catch another movie (because they’re cheap and I could), so I saw “I Love You, Man”. It was okay I guess. It had some very interesting observations on the dynamics and importance of male friendships. I just thought a lot of the humor was unecessarily crude (meaning unfunny) and was pretty forgettable as well. So I’d give it a solid C.

Wednesday Morning, I woke up early, drove Christian’s truck up to the studio where Mr Ian Fowles, (aka a prince among princes) drove me to the airport. He even bought donuts! Let’s hear it for Ian! I flew out of Long Beach and it was a TOTAL Zoo. SO many people and the check-in workers told me I probably wouldn’t get on the flight (gotta love Standby). So I waited eagerly, got some reading done (Dark Tower Book IV – awesome) and I actually GOT ON THE PLANE! yaaaaaaaaaay. Miracle of miracles. There was thunderstorms in NY, so we were lucky to even fly!

When I landed at JFK, I checked my messages. I was supposed to meet Christian, and the other guys there, but I get a voicemail from Parker saying their flight was cancelled in Toronto and they were stuck there. Luckily I was able to stay in their hotel room and got a ride from a friend over there. Woo.

Tusday Morning, I woke up wondering what the heck was going on. When I finally heard from the guys in Toronto, they informed me that all the pitch meetings in NY (that I was going to be in on) had been cancelled and that they weren’t going to make it. So I packed my bags and headed up out into Times Square (can I just say how much I hate Times Square? It’s so annoying! Ads everywhere! It’s like a real-life myspace but noiser, and with scientologists). I walked a few blocks to Penn Station and where I hopped on a train down to Princeton.

I read some more on the train, and my friend Travis picked me up. (remember when I was talking about Princes? Travis is the reason the call it PRINCEton. Even though he technically lives in West Windsor… I think). Him and Jen had been babysitting our minivan since Marylynn flew out a couple weeks ago. (I forgot how much I missed New Jersey. It’s so gorgeous. It made Cali look that much grosser to me. And I’m moving there? yep!) So I went and picked up the van. Lucky for me, it was still running and there were melted Dora The Explorer snack treats in there. Yum. So I immedeately hit the road and headed out to Pennsylvania.

I lucked out again that there was enough gas to get here (money’s tight you know) but when I showed up to John and Jaime’s, no one was home. So since I had no where to go (and a key) I let myself in and made myself at home. John called a couple hours later to let me know they were out of town and I had the house to myself. I think I’m noticing a pattern here. Is it too late to re-title this post to “Alone Time: Extreme Edition”?

So I hung out, played video games, made some long distance calls, ate all their ice cream, tried on their clothes, rearranged furniture, ordered a lot of pay-per-view… you know, the usual.

So I woke up to Christian calling me abiout 10 minutes before the meetings in DC were to start. I guess I wasn’t going to DC after all. But it’s just as well, because I got a LOT of work done today. I went to the storage unit a couple times, loaded up the van with all our earthly posessions, cleaned out the beetle and even went to the post office to mail stuff off. John and his family showed up in the afternoon, which was cool. They had been tubing at the lake. You can read all about it here: (too lazy to post the link. sorry)

But yeah, I spent many hours climbing over boxes and digging through treasures in the storage unit today in the hot, humid weather. So give me a break about the link already, huh? It even rained a bit.

So I’m sleeping in PA tonight and tomorrow my plan is to take the beetle down to a VW dealership in York and take whatever they’re willing to give me for it (these are desperate times). Then I’ll probably get the oil changed in the van and then go back to the storage unit one more time. (Gotta find that Wii!!). After that it’s the open road!

I don’t know much I’ll be posting on my trip, although I will commit to posting whenever I can. So we’ll see. I’ve never driven cross-country before, let alone by myself, but it should be quite a good soul-searching experience. Plus I found a Harry Potter Audiobook to keep me company. yay.

I can’t wait to get back to Cali to see my family. I miss them sooooo much. It’s kinda killing me a little. Patience, Tyler…
