Saturday morning we headed out to PA to visit John and Jaime and their family to celebrate Lily’s fourth birthday! The drive down was rather nice. I played the audiobook of the first couple chapters of The Audacity of Hope (which is awesome, but I’ll talk about that later…), so the drive down was pretty nice.
We got there a little early so we helped set up. I got to fill the chip bowls. Oh what fun. They had the slip-n-slide set up on the hill in their backyard and lots of fun inflatable water toys for the kids. John made some AWESOME (virgin) piña-coladas with strawberries and blackberries. There were tons of yummy snacks (goodbye diet… for one day) and then when Katie and Clayton and the other guests showed up it, it just got to be totally awesome. (Click on an image to make it bigger, and please forgive the wonky layout of this gallery… I’m still trying to figure it out.)
I realize this is a little late, but I just figured out an easy way to upload images through this blog (which is the primary reason for Finn to start her own blog.
Well, I’m truly a blessed man. I’ve got the raddest wife who treats me like a king on Father’s Day. This morning started out rather nice with no early morning bishopric meetings, so I got to sleep in until 8am. Marylynn made me a nice big skillet breakfast of eggs, potatoes and bacon (I got to cheat on my diet today! woo hoo!) and I took Cricket to church. Buster seemed a little sick so we decided to play it safe, so Marylynn stayed home with him. This also gave her the chance to clean up for me. Awesome.
So church was good until I got called in to help with the nursery. This is a positive post, so I’m going to skip that part.
When I got home, Marylynn treated me to a nice dinner of BBQ ribs and veggies. Awesome. Then I got to open my big present – GUITAR HERO 3!! woo hoo… In case you’re not familiar with Guitar Hero, it’s a video game, played with a guitar where you hit notes and strum in order “play” real songs. And some of the songs are actually really good. The cool part is that I can download songs through the Playstation network… so we’ve been rocking out to No Doubt, Muse, Coldplay, Kaiser Cheifs, The Killers, Weezer and a bunch more around our house.
Below are the incredibly adorable pictures. Click for captions.
Then we feasted upon a GIANT double-layer cream-filled chocolate chip cookie that was decorated like a cake with frosting saying “happy fathers day”. This thing was a monstrosity!! Seriously so big, and especially coming from being on a diet… well, you know what they say about too much of a good thing…
I can’t remember what we did after we put the kids down, but we probably ended up watching a movie or something. All I know is I’ve got a rad wife who treats me great and knows to get me what I REALLY want for Fathers Day. woo hoo!
I stumbled across this video (apparently made by my friend Dallas) observing all the good looking folks at the San Diego comic book convention ComiCon a couple years back. Set to some sappy music, it’s pretty ironic and funny. But the real hotness starts around the 1:11 mark.
I love you!
I found this on yahoo.com a few weeks ago and took a screen grab. With all due respects to Ted Kennedy and his family, this headline still struck me as really funny. If you think I’m just being mean, read it again. Just the headline.
Current Mood: Esctatic
I admit I’m hesitant to write about this because I’m people might think I’ve become some kind of new-agey self-help nut, but I say, “screw it”. Since Marylynn was brave enough to post about her therapy this morning, then I’ll take a similar step.
So yesterday I got back from attending an experiential men’s weekend called the New Warriors Training Adventure and it was truly a life changing experience.
