Apple’s thin obsession

I found this funny video over at Waxy

of Montreal

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Ok, here’s the band I’m obsessed with this week, of Montreal. Although they are not new to me, I finally gave their latest record a chance “Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?”. Here’s from Wikipedia:

Barnes has described the album as a concept album, detailing his transformation from Kevin Barnes into Georgie Fruit. The transformation takes place during “The Past Is a Grotesque Animal,” the 12-minute long “turning point” of the album.

I didn’t really bother getting into it. Kevin’s make-up and girlie blouses were a little off-putting to me (but was never anything more weird than Bowie ever did…) Their music seemed a little too erratic to me before until I heard “The Past is a Grotesque Animal”, so I gave it a try and WOW. Awesome stuff. There’s a of different sounds and influences I’m hearing in there – Bowie, Devo, The Shins, Pink Floyd, Serge Gainsbourg, Gary Newman, Mr. Bungle, Franz Ferdinand, and on and on and on… They’re very theatrical and pretty… well crazy, but I love it. It’s great. Here’s their video for “Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse” which was directed by the Brothers Chaps (they guys that make Homestar Runner)with more after the jump.

Album Cover Game

Friday, January 11th, 2008

So here’s a fun game I found on Neatorama – the CD Cover Meme! The above album doesn’t exist. The name and title were randomly selected, as was the photo. I took that info and designed a cover in photoshop and it turned out kinda neat! I imagine this band sounds like Pedro the Lion. But don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself!

1. First, get the name of your band: this will be the first article title on

2. Get the title of your album: the last four words of the very last quote:

3. The third picture, no matter what it is, is your album cover:

So I decided to do one, and it was so much fun I couldn’t stop at just one. The above image is my favorite one, but there’s a bunch more after the jump.

I broke my neck.

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Ok, so Maybe BREAK is a little bit of a strong word, but I hurt it. Pretty bad. I was in the shower this morning and I felt a cramp in the back of my neck that felt like a little pinch and it got stronger and stronger and BINGO! I couldn’t move my head with out it just KILLING. So I laid down on the bed for a bit and it didn’t get any better. So Marylynn made me an appointment with the doctor. The photo of me to the left was taken only minutes ago.

Hot Chip

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

OK, so now that that Finn has her own blog up and rolling, you can probably expect more non-family stuff here (i.e. silly video clips, web finds, music & movie stuff, etc.). I’d be lame if I didn’t post about my latest obsession, Hot Chip.

Hot Chip is an indie/electronic band from the UK. I’ve known about them for years, but haven’t really gotten into them… until now. So I’m totally in love with this new song (and accompanying video) for “Ready For The Floor” off their upcoming record. It’s played quite often in our home and it’s especially popular with the kids, as they like to jump and dance on the bed whenever it’s played. In fact, they beg for it and play it over and over. Buster bounces his feet when we play it in the car. It’s so funny.

The song is great and the video is even better. Check it out for yourself. I can’t stop watching it. And you get 10 points if you know why the guy is dressed like the Joker.

Something tells me this song is going to be HUGE. Possibly even “Hey Ya!” huge. We’ll see.

We’re branching out!

Friday, January 4th, 2008

After a long time of hearing Marylynn complain that posting on this blog is “too hard”, she finally went and set up her own blog over at blogspot. This way, she can upload photos a lot quicker and easier without having to resize in Photoshop, upload through FTP and learn html code. So from here on out, she’s going to be posting most of her thoughts, rants, ramblings etc. as well as most of the family-oriented stuff over there, while I can keep posting my stuff that probably bores our extended families (i.e. Music stuff, movie stuff etc.). One might see this as a sign of trouble and spread rumors about us around OC that we’re on the brink of divorce, but this is simply not true. This is organizing our thoughts in the right places and keeping my family one step further from strangers, stalkers and Aquacadets.

So if you’re you’re a fan of Finn, you can find her new blog over here:

How’s that for timing, huh? Speaking of awesome timing, we had a little mini belated birthday party for Cricket’s fourth! It was awesome! So we took a bunch of pictures and even a little video! check it out!

Santa’s Firetruck!

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

So here’s the first of our Christmas round-up! I know you’ve been waiting, so let me tell you a little story about Santa and his firetruck.

A couple weeks ago, Cricket and Buster were simply watching The Wizard of Oz at home. When suddenly, we heard sirens outside, so I grabbed Cricket (Buster wasn’t dressed enough) and we ran outside to see what the ruckus was all about…
