The Day Farrah Fawcett Died

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Current Mood:Sad emoticon Sad

This really sucks. The woman was an inspiration and fought long and hard with cancer. Marylynn even served her once as a waitress at Ruby’s. I don’t want to be disrespectful, but I’ve been thinking about this day for 18 years because of this song:

The Day Farrah Fawcett Died
by The Vandals

Birds In The Air
Never Chirped The Same
Slobs In Bowling Alleys Know
They’d Never Burp The Same
They Came To Cry
Shocked With Disbelief
Broken Masses Of Millions
All Drowning In Their Grief

“She Was Just An Innocent
How Could You, God?”
They Cried, The Day
That Farrah Fawcett Died

Throughout The Globe
Every Chinese Man And Turk
Their Unifying Symbol
They Really Liked Her Work
But Who’s To Blame?
No One Made A Move
Until I Find Out Who Did This
Nobody Leaves The Room

“She Was Just An Innocent
How Could You, God?”
They Cried, The Day
That Farrah Fawcett Died

They Say The Road Was Icy
But That Just Don’t Add Up
A Bushy-Haired Intruder
Another Government Cover Up
A Drug-Related Overdose
A Hunting Accident,
Death At The Hands Of Another;
I Will Bet!

First JFK
And Then We Lost The King
Thank God It Must Be Over Now
They Say They Come In Threes
But Still I Ache
The World Has Lost A Friend
I Will Trade All
Of My ViewMaster Reels
To See Her Once Again

“She Was Just An Innocent
How Could You, God?”
They Cried, The Day
That Farrah Fawcett Died

…It Was The Day
I Heard My Momma Cry
It Was The Day
The Day I Hoped You Lied
It Was the Day
I Prayed to God You Lied

“She Was Just An Innocent
How Could You, God?”
They Cried, The Day
That Farrah Fawcett Died

Thanks, Farrah, you will be missed. RIP.

Hope Ya Know, We Had a Hard Time

Thanks to Mary Barnum and Parker who shared this video with me. I finally watched it this morning and it hit home harder than… well, pretty hard. Beautiful message and very personal for me. Thank you.

Seriously, Virgin Mobile?!

That’s just messed up, you guys.

Goodbye Jersey

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

As promised, here’s the latest update. I’ve been putting this off for far too long. So after five months (and counting) of unemployment, we made the decision a few weeks ago to leave our home in New Jersey and move back in with John (Marylynn’s brother) and his family in Elizabethtown, PA. I didn’t want to say anything about it because I had been hanging onto the hope that I could find a job here in the area so we wouldn’t have to move. But with seven days left and no strong leads, I must face the inevitable.

Princeton to Elizabethtown

The last time we moved out of desperation was almost three years ago (that’s almost a record!). We left California and moved in with John in PA. We were there for three months until I found a job in New Jersey at Virgin Mobile. We were super grateful for their kindness and patience with putting up with us. It’ll be interesting to go back now that the kids are a little older and we know the area a lot better. It’s a lot less scary knowing what to expect (not to mention their basement is finished, which is very very nice). My plan is to spend my days job hunting there, just like I have been here and and find a job quick and relocate ASAP. Fingers crossed.

Since we’ll only be 2 hours away, we plan on coming back to visit our dear friends here in Jersey often. So that’s a huge plus. We’ll be that much more ready to move where ever when that “perfect job” finally comes around. Not to mention the money we’ll be saving.

We’ve been slowly packing over the past few weeks, so we’re sitting on (and under) a lot of cardboard boxes and all the pictures are off the walls. We’ve been cleaning out our closets and getting rid of extra stuff. And hey, if by any stretch we end up staying, at least we’ll have a lot less crap in our lives. So that’s good.

So, yeah. We’re sad to leave New Jersey. We really love it here and have made some great friends here who we will miss, and we’re trying not to get nostalgic because that would only get us down. Instead we’re trying to look to the future and be open to whatever the Lord has in store for us. Who knows where we’ll be a year from now?

“So, How’s The Job Hunt Coming?”

Current Mood:Alarmed emoticon Alarmed

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that question (or a variant thereof) in the past three and a half months. I’m lucky enough to have a lot of people that care about me and care to know how the near future is going to be for me and my family. I am very grateful for that. It’s tough because more often than not, there’s not much news to report and I find I need to repeat myself. This is why I created a blog in the first place – to post up my thoughts and updates in life so that friends and family can see and I don’t have to repeat the same stories over and over. So why haven’t I posted anything here vis-a-vis the “jobhunt”?

The Economy Got Me.

Friday, November 21st, 2008

So I figured I should go ahead and write about this, since basically, I’m rather sick of talking about it now and if I get the whole story out, it’ll be one of those elephants in the room everyone’s afraid to acknowledge. Monday morning I showed up to work and everyone was all a-buzz talking about an e-mail sent out by our company president. A fairly large number of people were going to be laid off. Apparently the economy was effecting the company the same as every one else. I didn’t think I was in too much danger until about 20 minutes later when I got called into my department manager’s office.

Sorry, Ted

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

I found this on a few weeks ago and took a screen grab. With all due respects to Ted Kennedy and his family, this headline still struck me as really funny. If you think I’m just being mean, read it again. Just the headline.

Tax Tip #15

Monday, April 14th, 2008

If you hire someone to do freelance work for you, send out their 10-99 in like February or something. NOT 2 days before the tax deadline, when the freelancer had probably already filed his taxes and most likely already gotten his return back. Although that’s not technically illegal, that’s just bad business. People will think you’re a really big ______.

I broke my neck.

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Ok, so Maybe BREAK is a little bit of a strong word, but I hurt it. Pretty bad. I was in the shower this morning and I felt a cramp in the back of my neck that felt like a little pinch and it got stronger and stronger and BINGO! I couldn’t move my head with out it just KILLING. So I laid down on the bed for a bit and it didn’t get any better. So Marylynn made me an appointment with the doctor. The photo of me to the left was taken only minutes ago.
